The SAP Release Manager has responsibility for creating and maintaining a cross application release plan for the SAP applications. Ensuring that the Applications are released following standard quality processes. Working with the client to support their process and quality standards. Working with other teams within the unit to agree priorities and scope for future AM software releases. Maintaining a plan of on-going and future work for all SAP applications.
• Own & maintain the SAP Application Release Plan
• Participate in the development of Release Management Policy & Process, ensuring that they are communicated, and are regularly reviewed, supporting the continous improvement of the unit processes and operating procedures
• Manage the relationship with the client Release Manager
• Assist in managing project and service request interdependencies to ensure application release delivery and integrity
• Assist in resolving issues that affect release scope, quality, schedule, budget, and resources
• Ensure the application release deliverables adhere to unit standards
• Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations
• Negotiate, plan, and coordinate the application release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates
• Oversee the end to end Release Process, including planning & integration of the application release, the application regression testing, the deployment of the release, and conduct the post deployment evaluation of the release
• Identify, control & co-ordinate the external dependencies of the release.
• Responsible for signing off the application release testing and approving the release as fit for production
• Work with the AM Test Manager to define the level of testing for the application release
• Provide regular updates to key stakeholders and / or sponsoring executives
• Act as an effective stand in for line manager in his/her absence
• Participate in / drive on going process improvements within the Release Management team
• Define the work plan, schedule, and required resource within area of responsibility
• Support the implementation of and adherence to unit processes within area of responsibility
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• Deep knowledge in release management and its implementation at the unit
• Experience with program and project management
• Quality management skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• General knowledge of SAP Technical Landscape
• Knowledgeof the SAP Transport & Correction System
• Good organization skills
• Project Management skills
• Knowledge of project implementation phases
• General knowledge of standard business processes
• Good knowledge of Excel from an end-user perspective
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Knowledge of ITIL or similar industry standards for Service Management
EXPERIENCE:
• 3-5 years experience working in IT projects, preferably through the plan, design, build, test, and deploy phases
• Prior release management experience would be a distinct advantage
